The residents of Eastpointe approved a proposed Charter Amendment in August 2016 that would save money for future special assessments, by contacting voters via regular first-class mail instead of a newspaper publication or registered mail. This change will easily save tens of thousands of dollars per Special Assessment in the future, that is for all residents of the community. The Eastisider covered this ballot proposal. The City Council originally voted to add this to the ballot on October 20, 2015.
Ballot language: "Currently Section 11 of Chapter XVI gives City Council the option of providing notices regarding the filing and review of special assessment rolls by either newspaper publication or registered mail. It is proposed such notices regarding special assessments be permitted to be sent by regular first-class mail rather than registered mail."
