The City has made it a goal for years to convert all streetlights to LED, as not only a cost-cutting measure, but also to reduce electricity usage. Environmentally friendly policies are important to me, and that is why I have continued supporting the Street Lighting Special Assessment to finish this project. Now that it is completed, the assessment will only be levied to cover electricity costs. Unfortunately, DTE has increased the costs of the LED lights, but we will at least still have environmentally friendly infrastructure in the City.
The City approved the last batch of streetlights to be converted April 7, 2015. The Eastsider covered the conversion once it was complete on November 8, 2016.
