The Humane Pet Acquisition Ordinance, passsed by City Council September 1, 2015, aims to increase the amount of animals adopted by humane means. Some companies across the country run what are referred to as "puppy mills" or similar operations for different animals. Petco, a great business partner in the City, already only offered dogs and animals via adoption, and not from places like "puppy mills". The Ordinance covers the acquisition of dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets.
